Normalize spoken audio without guessing the delivery target
Start from a loudness target, measure the input and verify the encoded result. Keep noise cleanup and loudness adjustment separate.
Start here
- Record the destination's integrated loudness and true-peak requirements, channel layout and sample format.
- Measure before processing. For a measured two-pass route, retain the first-pass values and the exact second-pass command.
- Measure the final encoded output again; listen for clipping, pumping and other artifacts separately from numerical checks.
Saved resources
- FFmpeg loudnorm: measured two-pass speech and podcast loudness normalization with encoded readback
- Encoding, loudness and quality tools for generated video as pointers: ab-av1, Av1an, ffmpeg-normalize, PyAV, MoviePy, VMAF; licence, needs, evidence status
What remains uncertain
The measured two-pass utility passed two original generated signals and six regression tests. No listening or platform certification was performed. Other saved sources are documentary; delivery targets and acceptable sound depend on the destination and material.
