Select a usable audio stream from a mixed Apple MOV
Inspect stream metadata before choosing between an ordinary audio track and an APAC stream your decoder may not support.
Start here
- Inspect all audio streams, their indices, codecs and channel layouts with the actual installed tool version.
- Map the intended supported stream explicitly. A filename or first-audio-stream default does not identify the right track.
- Check duration, synchronization and decoded output. Retain the source when a codec is unsupported.
Saved resources
- FFmpeg: copy video and only the second audio stream; inspect AAC streams and preserve the original
- Apple APAC with FFmpeg 8.1: Marian A-pac confusion, failed MOV copying and a tested macOS stereo fallback
What remains uncertain
A working ordinary-track fallback does not decode APAC, preserve spatial metadata or prove every Apple recording has a fallback track.
