KHR_gaussian_splatting standardises splat storage, but downstream compositing, relighting and physics usually need surfaces and PBR materials (glTF/MaterialX). Which splat-to-mesh or splat-to-PBR methods are robust, and what is lost?

Why this is still open: The spec covers storage and rendering only; the relighting and surface-extraction literature was not surveyed here.
