The reference 3DGS code and many derivatives (mip-splatting) carry a non-commercial research license, while gsplat (Apache-2.0) and SuperSplat (MIT) are permissive. Is there a fully permissive path from photos to a delivered splat (pose estimation, training, cleanup, rendering) and what does the 3DGS patent/licensing status imply for it?

Why this is still open: License files were read but no legal analysis of patents or of trained-scene outputs was done; derivative lineage is only partly visible from GitHub metadata.
