The official video_wan2_2_14B_animate template (Comfy-Org/workflow_templates 0cc0fba) replaces a character in a driving video using a reference image, DWPreprocessor face and pose videos and a SAM2 character mask, through WanAnimateToVideo in a first-chunk subgraph and extend subgraphs. It needs comfyui_controlnet_aux, ComfyUI-KJNodes and ComfyUI-segment-anything-2, and a third-party fp8 checkpoint with two LoRAs. As saved: 640x640, 16 fps, 77-frame chunks, 6 steps at CFG 1, one extend subgraph active and a second bypassed. Read statically; not executed.

Wan 2.2 14B Animate in ComfyUI: the official template

Scope. This guide reads the official video_wan2_2_14B_animate.json in Comfy-Org/workflow_templates at commit 0cc0fba562efe9f68e48050c2b82ed6495050bc2 (SHA256 9a088c90...e9b9, 137,636 bytes). All 40 root nodes, 72 root links and the three subgraph definitions were traced statically. Nothing was run, and no model, video, image, custom node or linked page was downloaded or installed.

1. Prerequisites
- Three custom node packs, named in note 226 and in the saved node metadata: comfyui_controlnet_aux (PixelPerfectResolution and two DWPreprocessor nodes), ComfyUI-KJNodes (PointsEditor, DrawMaskOnImage, BlockifyMask) and ComfyUI-segment-anything-2 (DownloadAndLoadSAM2Model, Sam2Segmentation). The nodes were saved at specific commits: controlnet_aux 59b027e0, segment-anything-2 c59676b0 and, for KJNodes, three different commits (e81f3350, 623b5913, 00da1910). Those are saved identifiers, not tested minimums, and the packs were not inspected. Core nodes were saved at 0.3.59, and the three subgraph instances at 0.3.60, with frontend 1.32.1.
- Files, as declared by the loaders and the Model links note (node 44, sizes as stated there):
  - models/diffusion_models/Wan2_2-Animate-14B_fp8_e4m3fn_scaled_KJ.safetensors (17.14 GB), from the third-party repository Kijai/WanVideo_comfy_fp8_scaled. The note also lists wan2.2_animate_14B_bf16.safetensors (32.18 GB) from the Comfy-Org repack; the loader in the file names only the KJ fp8 file.
  - models/loras/lightx2v_I2V_14B_480p_cfg_step_distill_rank64_bf16.safetensors (703.8 MB) and WanAnimate_relight_lora_fp16.safetensors (1.34 GB), both from Kijai/WanVideo_comfy.
  - clip_vision_h.safetensors (1.18 GB), models/text_encoders/umt5_xxl_fp8_e4m3fn_scaled.safetensors (6.27 GB) and models/vae/wan_2.1_vae.safetensors (242.1 MB).
  About 26.9 GB in all.
- Preprocessor and segmentation models named in widgets but absent from the note: sam2_hiera_base_plus.safetensors (DownloadAndLoadSAM2Model), yolox_l.onnx and dw-ll_ucoco_384_bs5.torchscript.pt (DWPreprocessor). Whether those nodes fetch them automatically is not in the file. The SAM2 loader's name suggests it does; that was not checked.

2. Two modes
Note 227 says the model has two modes: Mix (character replace) and Move (pose transfer). As saved the graph is in Mix mode: the background video and the character mask both reach WanAnimateToVideo. To use Move mode, disconnect the Background_video and Character_mask outputs from WanAnimateToVideo. The note warns that bypassing is not enough, because a bypassed node still passes its input video through.

3. Inputs and preprocessing
- Driving video: LoadVideo 145 (example video_wan2_2_14B_animate_original_video.mp4) feeds GetVideoComponents 23. Its images go to ImageScale 212 (lanczos, center crop) and PixelPerfectResolution 158, and its audio goes to the output stage. Note 103 says ImageScale keeps an oversized video from making preprocessing very slow; update it to your video size.
- Size: the primitives "Width" (node 159) and "Height" (node 160) are saved at 640 and are linked into ImageScale (whose saved 512 x 512 is overridden), PixelPerfectResolution and the sampling subgraph. Note 161 says WanAnimateToVideo needs width and height as multiples of 16 and that the small default protects low-VRAM users.
- Face and pose videos: two DWPreprocessor nodes take the scaled frames. Node 100 has only its third toggle enabled and node 101 has its first two, which matches a face-only and a body-and-hand split, with 100 feeding face_video and 101 feeding pose_video. The toggle labels are not serialized in the file; they come from the pack's widget order, which was not inspected. Their resolution input is linked from PixelPerfectResolution 158, so the saved 512 does not apply.
- Character mask and background video: PointsEditor 229 (saved with one green point at 256, 256) takes the first scaled frame as its background and outputs positive_coords to Sam2Segmentation 107, which also takes the model from DownloadAndLoadSAM2Model 108 (sam2_hiera_base_plus, video, cuda, fp16) and the scaled frames. Its mask goes through GrowMask 274 (10, tapered corners on) and BlockifyMask 276 (32). The blockified mask goes to character_mask, and DrawMaskOnImage 275 (color 0, 0, 0) paints it onto the scaled frames to make background_video. Note 126 explains the editor: Shift plus left click adds a green point for what to detect, Shift plus right click adds a red point for what to exclude, and "New canvas" clears the points. The editor's red point (saved at 0, 0) is not used: the editor's negative_coords output is not connected, so red points have no effect as wired. The editor holds its own typed canvas size of 640 x 640.
- Previews: PreviewImage 124 and MaskPreview 127 show the mask results and are bypassed as saved.
- Reference image: LoadImage 10 (example video_wan2_2_14B_animate_reference_image.png) goes to CLIPVisionEncode 9 (clip_vision_h from CLIPVisionLoader 4, crop none) and to the reference_image input of WanAnimateToVideo.
- Prompt: positive CLIPTextEncode 21 ("The character is dancing in the room") and negative 1 (the usual Wan Chinese quality list), through CLIPLoader 2 (umt5_xxl_fp8_e4m3fn_scaled, type wan). VAELoader 3 loads wan_2.1_vae.

4. Model chain and sampler
UNETLoader 20 (the KJ fp8 checkpoint) feeds LoraLoaderModelOnly 18 (lightx2v I2V 14B 480p cfg-step distill, strength 1), then LoraLoaderModelOnly 99 (WanAnimate relight, strength 1), then ModelSamplingSD3 60 (shift 8). That one model goes to the first-chunk subgraph and to the extend subgraphs. Sampling settings are promoted widgets on the subgraph instances: for the first chunk, KSampler 63 uses seed 1106558644923357 set to randomize, 6 steps, CFG 1, euler, simple. For each extend, KSampler 91 uses seed 387378783691198 fixed, 6 steps, CFG 1, euler, simple. The 6-step, CFG 1 setting follows the LoRA distillation; no 20-step alternative is in the file.

5. Length, fps and chunks
- Each chunk is generated by WanAnimateToVideo with width and height 640 (linked), length 77 (typed inside the subgraph), batch size 1, and the values 5 and 0 that are, in the core node's order, continue_motion_max_frames and video_frame_offset. CreateVideo uses 16 fps, so 77 frames are 4.8125 s. 77 has the 4n + 1 form that the Wan 2.2 reference code is documented to use (see the frame-count guide). How many new frames an extend adds after the trimming in each chunk is not stated in the file.
- The audio comes from the driving video and is attached by CreateVideo in each subgraph. Nothing in the graph sets the frame count from the driving video's length. The number of generated frames depends on how many chunks are active. If the driving video is longer than the active chunks cover, what happens to the rest is not in the file.
- Chunks: the first-chunk subgraph (node 232) saves through SaveVideo 19. Extend subgraph 242 is active as saved. It takes the previous chunk's batch images and the video_frame_offset output (links 527 and 537), generates the next chunk, joins the previous images and the new ones with ImageBatch 86, and saves through SaveVideo 243. So SaveVideo 243 holds the frames of both chunks, not just the new one. A second extend subgraph (node 278) and its SaveVideo 277 are bypassed as saved. Note 238 says to copy the group and link "Batch images" and "video_frame_offset" to the next extend subgraph.
- Extend subgraph width quirk: inside each extend subgraph, both width and height inputs of WanAnimateToVideo 90 are fed by the single width input. The extend instances expose no height input. With a non-square size, the extend chunks would get the width for both. This is the file's wiring; the effect on a run was not tested.

6. Run it
1) Install the three custom node packs and restart ComfyUI. 2) Put the files in the folders above (note the clip vision folder, section 7). 3) Open the template. 4) Load your driving video in LoadVideo 145 and your reference image in LoadImage 10. 5) Set Width and Height (node 159 and 160) to multiples of 16, and keep them equal if you will use extend subgraphs. 6) Run once so the editor receives the first frame, then place green points on the character in PointsEditor 229 (Shift plus left click). 7) Edit the prompts, then run. Expect a video under video/ComfyUI from SaveVideo 19, and a longer one from SaveVideo 243.
To extend further, enable the bypassed extend subgraph 278 and its SaveVideo, or copy a group and link its inputs (note 238). To use Move mode, follow note 227.

7. Failure cases and checks
- Missing custom nodes: the graph stops with unknown node types for DWPreprocessor, PixelPerfectResolution, PointsEditor, Sam2Segmentation, DrawMaskOnImage and BlockifyMask until the three packs are installed (note 226).
- Wrong clip vision folder: the loader declares the directory clip_vision, while the folder tree in note 44 writes clip_visions. The loader's declaration is the one the node uses.
- Move mode: bypassing the Background_video and Character_mask nodes does not turn it on; disconnect them (note 227).
- Red points do nothing: see section 3.
- Size: widths and heights that are not multiples of 16 are not accepted (note 161). Keep them equal when using extend subgraphs (section 5).
- Out-of-memory or very slow preprocessing: note 103 and note 161 attribute both to large inputs. The file gives no VRAM figure.
- Third-party files: the checkpoint and both LoRAs come from Kijai's repositories, not Comfy-Org. Their licences were not checked.
- Frame count versus driving video length: see section 5.
- The Tutorial link in note 44 has a line break before its closing parenthesis, so it may not resolve as written. It was not fetched.

8. How it differs from the other Wan 2.2 14B templates
It is the only one of the 14B templates here that needs custom nodes, a driving video, a SAM2 mask and DW pose preprocessing. It uses one fine-tuned checkpoint rather than a high-noise and low-noise pair, applies two LoRAs in series, samples for 6 steps at CFG 1 through subgraphs and builds longer videos by chaining extend subgraphs. Its size is set by two primitives, where the others type 640 or 832 on the conditioning node.
