The official utility_video_frame_interpolation template (Comfy-Org/workflow_templates 0cc0fba) uses core ComfyUI nodes, not the ComfyUI-Frame-Interpolation pack. FrameInterpolate runs film_net_fp16 with multiplier 2. "Apply multiplier to FPS?", saved on, sets output fps to source fps x min(|multiplier|, 16), keeping duration; off keeps the source fps, so the clip plays slower. Read statically; not executed.

Frame interpolation in ComfyUI with core nodes: the official template

Scope. This guide reads the official utility_video_frame_interpolation.json in Comfy-Org/workflow_templates at commit 0cc0fba562efe9f68e48050c2b82ed6495050bc2 (SHA256 d7d790eb...1ec5, 24,880 bytes). The graph was traced statically through its wrapper and subgraph. Nothing was run, and no model or video was downloaded.

1. Prerequisites
- A ComfyUI build with the core frame interpolation nodes. FrameInterpolationModelLoader, FrameInterpolate, GetVideoComponents and the switch and math nodes are all comfy-core, saved at version 0.19.3, and the file's note cites ComfyUI pull request 13258. That is a saved version string, not a tested minimum. If the nodes are missing, update ComfyUI. This template does not use the third-party ComfyUI-Frame-Interpolation pack.
- One model file. The template's Model Link note names the repo Comfy-Org/frame_interpolation and the folder models/frame_interpolation/, with film_net_fp16.safetensors (65.7 MB) as the file this template uses. The same folder listing names alternatives: rife_v4.25, rife_v4.25_heavy, rife_v4.25_lite, rife_v4.26 and rife_v4.26_heavy. The file states no sizes or settings for those.

2. The controls you edit
The root holds LoadVideo (node 4, example white_armored_warrior.mp4), the wrapper "Frame Interpolation" (node 16) and SaveVideo (node 7: prefix video/ComfyUI, format auto, codec auto). The wrapper promotes three controls:
- multiplier (PrimitiveInt 9): 2.
- Apply multiplier to FPS? (PrimitiveBoolean 13): saved on.
- model_name on FrameInterpolationModelLoader 1: film_net_fp16.safetensors.

3. What the graph does
Inside subgraph 022693be-2baa-4009-870a-28921508a7ef, GetVideoComponents 3 splits the input into images, audio and fps. FrameInterpolate 2 takes the images, the loaded model and the multiplier. CreateVideo 5 rebuilds a video from the interpolated images and the original audio. Its fps input is linked to ComfySwitchNode 10, driven by the FPS boolean:
- On (saved default): output fps comes from ComfyMathExpression 11, min(abs(b), 16) * a, where a is the source fps and b the multiplier. With multiplier 2, the frame rate doubles and the duration stays about the same, with smoother motion.
- Off: output fps is the source fps, so the extra frames play back more slowly, as a slow-motion clip roughly multiplier times longer.
CreateVideo's own saved fps of 30 is linked over and is not used.

4. Run it
1) Put film_net_fp16.safetensors in models/frame_interpolation/. 2) Open the template and load your video in node 4. 3) Set the multiplier on the wrapper. 4) Leave "Apply multiplier to FPS?" on for smoother motion at the same length, or turn it off for slow motion. 5) Run. Expect one video at video/ComfyUI with the original audio track passed through.

5. Failure cases and checks
- Missing nodes: they come from ComfyUI core (pull request 13258), so install ComfyUI updates rather than the third-party pack.
- Multipliers above 16: the FPS expression caps the multiplier at 16, but the multiplier also goes straight to FrameInterpolate. If the node accepts larger values, frame count and FPS would no longer match. The node's allowed range is not in this file.
- Switching to a RIFE file: the folder listing names RIFE models, but the template is set up and documented only for film_net_fp16. Check the loader accepts the file you choose.
- Audio length: audio is passed through unchanged. With the FPS switch off, the video gets longer while the audio does not; the graph does not stretch audio.
- Identity or artefact repair: interpolation adds in-between frames; it does not fix content. The related RIFE/FILM record discusses this.

6. Related records
"What does ComfyUI-Frame-Interpolation offer (RIFE, FILM, GMFSS...)" and "How do I use RIFE and FILM to raise frame rate of an AI clip" cover the third-party pack and the original RIFE/FILM tools. This guide covers the core-node template, which needs neither. A separate record covers RIFE and FILM licence terms.

Evidence and rights. Evidence status: source_inspected, not_run, unreviewed. This is shared-founder desk curation by the tutorial lane. The workflow repository declares the MIT licence; that covers this analysis of the template, not the interpolation models, input videos or outputs, which keep their own terms.
