At Space commit 96113f30318d916d82a070a0c852b781b0ff911e, app.py enables prompt rewriting in its normal UI. That branch sends the input image and instruction to DashScope qwen-vl-max using DASH_API_KEY, and catches errors in a retry loop without a local limit before image generation. UI seed defaults differ from infer defaults; the model call uses unread custom pipeline code without a revision argument. Static source analysis; no execution or backend acceptance verified.

This analysis concerns Qwen/Qwen-Image-Edit Space app.py at commit 96113f30318d916d82a070a0c852b781b0ff911e, attributed to the Qwen Space repository. The complete 289-line file was inspected as source. It explains this wrapper's declared flow and a possible setup failure; no application, model or provider request was run. It does not establish the current hosted deployment, installed dependencies or generated-image quality.

The normal interface declares one PIL input-image widget and a text instruction. Its Edit button click and prompt submission are the explicit triggers. Both call infer with seven inputs, in order: image, prompt, seed, randomize_seed, true_guidance_scale, num_inference_steps and rewrite_prompt. The callback maps the two returns to result image and seed. The file does not register arbitrary widget changes as triggers. There is no explicit mask or multiple-reference widget in this wrapper; the unread pipeline's full capabilities remain unknown. [lines 213-229, 273-286]

The rewrite checkbox is declared True. When that value reaches infer, polish_prompt runs before the image-pipeline call. It combines the supplied instruction with a long instruction-rewriter prompt, then calls api with the same input image. encode_image serializes the PIL image to PNG and base64; api puts the resulting image data URI and instruction into the user message. The call site is dashscope.MultiModalConversation.call with model qwen-vl-max, result_format message and response_format taken from kwargs, defaulting to None. It reads the environment variable DASH_API_KEY and raises an error if it is absent. These are source-declared request construction and authentication requirements; provider acceptance, routing, data handling, price and terms were not verified. [lines 78-139, 183-196, 262]

polish_prompt starts with success=False and retries inside while not success. It strips JSON fences from string responses, parses JSON, reads the Rewritten member, strips surrounding whitespace and replaces newlines with spaces. It sets success=True only after those operations. Exceptions are caught and printed; this function contains no attempt bound, backoff, timeout or exit on failure. Consequently, an absent key, an unavailable dashscope import, a failed provider call, invalid JSON or a non-string Rewritten value can return control to the same loop before pipe is reached. This is a static control-flow finding, not an observed hang: hosting, decorators and SDK behavior could impose other limits. A JSON object merely containing Rewritten is insufficient if the following string operations fail. [lines 78-99, 111-139, 183-198]

Turning rewrite_prompt False skips this particular polish/API branch. It does not prove the entire application works offline or will generate successfully. The source imports custom code and loads a model during module initialization, before infer is called. The rewriting prompt asks for concise, feasible edits and preservation of subject details; those instructions are goals sent to a service, not demonstrated consistency, editing accuracy or safety guarantees. The effective rewritten prompt is printed, but infer returns only the first image and seed. A seed alone therefore does not record which rewritten instruction reached the image model. [lines 1-76, 142-147, 180-198]

The distinction between UI values and Python function defaults matters when comparing entry points:

| Setting | infer declaration | Normal UI declaration |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Seed | 120 | 0 |
| Randomize seed | False | True |
| True guidance scale | 4.0 | 4.0, range 1.0-10.0 |
| Inference steps | 50 | 50, range 1-50 |
| Rewrite prompt | True | True |

When randomize_seed is true, infer replaces the received seed with random.randint over 0 through np.iinfo(np.int32).max. It creates a torch.Generator on the selected device, manually seeds it and passes it explicitly into pipe. The same final seed is returned. This establishes argument wiring, not identical pixels across environments or repeatability of remote rewriting. The examples declaration passes only image and prompt to infer, names image and seed as outputs and sets cache_examples to lazy. That differs from the seven-input event binding. Actual Gradio default application, invocation and cache behavior were not inspected or executed, so the example declaration alone does not establish the values used by a real example run. [lines 154-198, 234-286]

The image call passes the input image as its first argument, the effective prompt, a negative prompt containing exactly one space, the chosen step count, seeded generator, true_cfg_scale and num_images_per_prompt=1. It reads .images and returns element zero. The negative prompt is not an empty string. No explicit height, width, resize, crop, mask or batch of reference images is supplied here. CSS max-width 1024px is page layout, and a 1024-by-1024 image appears only in a commented optimization call; neither establishes generated resolution or preprocessing. Those operations may exist inside unread custom modules. [lines 142-151, 172-198, 203-211]

QwenImageEditPipeline is imported from the local qwenimage.pipeline_qwen_image_edit module. The source calls from_pretrained with identifier Qwen/Qwen-Image-Edit and torch.bfloat16, then moves it to cuda if torch.cuda.is_available(), otherwise cpu. It supplies no model revision argument and actively reassigns the transformer's class to the locally imported QwenImageTransformer2DModel. The file's docstring mentions diffusers, but that does not establish equivalence to a stock diffusers pipeline. The attention-processor swap and optimize_pipeline_ call are commented; their imports alone do not establish those optimizations are active, and unread imports could have other effects. The spaces.GPU duration=120 decorator and device-selection expression are configuration code, not measured speed, memory, CPU compatibility or successful GPU allocation. No explicit adapter-loading call is present in this file; a draft description of a local LoRA pipeline is unsupported here. [lines 1-16, 142-169]

Proposed investigation, not tested repair: distinguish failures during initialization from the rewrite branch; inspect exact dependency files, the imported pipeline and transformer modules, build configuration and component licences at this same Space commit. Review provider interface and applicable terms separately before sending an image. For a controlled later comparison, preserve the effective prompt, final seed, randomize/rewrite values, input image identity, steps, guidance, installed versions and actual model revision. A bounded retry policy and explicit error return are possible code changes to evaluate, not an implemented fix or assurance that all failures would be solved.

Related library records cover the earlier Space discovery map, a Qwen model-card recipe and whole-run reproducibility. This source review adds wrapper-specific event wiring and the remote-rewrite boundary; it does not transfer model-card recipes, licences or results to the custom Space implementation.
