The pinned image_qwen_image_instantx_inpainting_controlnet ComfyUI workflow routes its inpainting mask to ControlNet conditioning, latent noise masking and final image compositing. Outpainting omits the latent-noise-mask step. Both paths save raw decoded and composite images separately. The composite destination is resized input; saved growth, blur and mode controls do not establish submitted values or unchanged outside-mask pixels. Static graph inspection; no generation or pixel-equality test.

The pinned image_qwen_image_instantx_inpainting_controlnet workflow contains distinct inpainting and outpainting paths. The key difference is where their processed masks go: the inpainting path uses the mask for conditioning, latent noise and final compositing; the outpainting path sends it to conditioning and compositing but encodes its image directly into the sampler. This is saved graph structure, not demonstrated execution or pixel preservation.

Inpainting: LoadImage 71 sends IMAGE through ImageScaleToMaxDimension 172, saved as area/1536. That scaled image feeds VAEEncode 76, ControlNetInpaintingAliMamaApply 108.image and ImageCompositeMasked 126.destination. LoadImage 71.MASK instead goes through grow/blur subgraph 121 and fans to ControlNet 108.mask, SetLatentNoiseMask 122.mask, Composite 126.mask and a mask preview. Encode 76 -> noise-mask 122 -> KSampler 3 -> decode 8 is the latent path. Decode 8 has two exits: SaveImage 60 receives the direct decoded image, while Composite 126 combines decoded source with the scaled input destination and sends its result to SaveImage 163. Both save nodes use prefix ComfyUI, so the prefix alone does not identify which output was composited.

The primary image is explicitly resized; its mask branch has no explicit corresponding resize node before the three consumers. Any automatic mask alignment or resampling inside those consumers remains uninspected. Note 173 describes pasting original pixels back with ImageCompositeMasked, but the actual destination wire is the scaled input. Thus the source note is an intention, not proof that pixels outside the mask equal the original uploaded file. Growth, blur and resizing also matter at boundaries; no compositing implementation or output pixels were tested.

Outpainting: LoadImage 193.IMAGE enters ImagePadForOutpaint 202, whose saved tuple is [200,200,0,200,0]. The uploaded MASK output is unused. The pad node's generated IMAGE and MASK go through scale subgraph 219: mask-to-image 217 -> scale 216 -> ImageToMask 218(red), alongside image scale 194. A shared PrimitiveInt 215 drives both largest_size inputs, but its saved 1536 is connected to a promoted value input. The scaled mask then goes through grow/blur 220 to ControlNet 181.mask, Composite 200.mask and preview 207. The scaled image supplies encode 195, ControlNet 181.image, Composite 200.destination and preview 203. Encode 195 directly feeds KSampler 190; there is no SetLatentNoiseMask on this path. Decode 191 goes both to direct SaveImage 192 and to Composite 200.source; the composite result goes to SaveImage 189.

Both grow/blur subgraphs use GrowMask -> MaskToImage -> ImageBlur -> ImageToMask(red). Internal saved GrowMask values differ: [0,true] for inpainting and [20,true] for outpainting; both ImageBlur nodes save [31,1]. Expand and blur_radius are connected subgraph inputs. Outer instances list proxy controls but empty widgets_values, so these internal values are not proven submitted settings. There is no explicit inversion node, which does not establish mask polarity. ControlNet 108/181 each save [1,0,1]; this JSON does not name those three widget fields. Strength/start/end interpretation, exact blur semantics, mask polarity and compositing interpolation need pinned implementation evidence or an authorized runtime inspection.

Keep the saved modes separate from a run: sampler 3 is mode 0 and stores seed 134554158057228/randomize/20 steps/CFG 2.5/euler/simple/denoise 1. Main Lightning LoRA 80 is mode 4. All outpainting processing/display/load/save nodes are mode 4, its source group says Ctrl-B to enable, and sampler 190 stores seed 375729975350303/randomize/4 steps/CFG 1/euler/simple/denoise 1. The graph is not evidence of two simultaneously executed samplers or of a validated 4-step/20-step toggle. A source note gives 50/4.0, 20/2.5 and 4/1.0 as a reference table, not measurements. ModelSamplingAuraFlow saves 3.1000000000000005 in both paths.

The selected files name qwen_image_fp8_e4m3fn.safetensors, Qwen-Image-InstantX-ControlNet-Inpainting.safetensors, Qwen-Image-Lightning-4steps-V1.0.safetensors, qwen_2.5_vl_7b_fp8_scaled.safetensors and qwen_image_vae.safetensors. The model note's storage-tree text instead includes an 8-step LoRA and extra distilled file; preserve this inconsistency rather than treating the tree as the loader state. Model URLs use mutable main, and exact weight revisions and component terms were not reviewed. frontendVersion 1.32.1 and node versions 0.3.51/0.3.59/0.3.65 are source metadata, not a tested installation lock or a 12 GB fit claim.
