Z-Image-Turbo (6B, Apache-2.0): ZImagePipeline bf16, 1024x1024, num_inference_steps=9 (8 DiT forwards), guidance_scale=0.0; fits 16 GB GPUs. Base Z-Image uses 50 steps with CFG and offers more diversity.

Z-Image is Tongyi-MAI's 6B image-generation family built on a Scalable Single-Stream DiT, which concatenates text, visual semantic and image VAE tokens into one sequence. Z-Image-Turbo is its distilled variant (Apache-2.0), aimed at photorealism and bilingual English and Chinese text.

Recipe from the card: install diffusers from source; ZImagePipeline.from_pretrained("Tongyi-MAI/Z-Image-Turbo", torch_dtype=torch.bfloat16, low_cpu_mem_usage=False) on CUDA; generate at 1024x1024 with num_inference_steps=9, which the card notes is 8 DiT forwards, and guidance_scale=0.0, because guidance should be 0 for Turbo models. Optional: set_attention_backend("flash") or "_flash_3", transformer.compile() (slower first run) and enable_model_cpu_offload() for memory-constrained GPUs. Choosing a variant (model-zoo table at this revision): Turbo is 8 steps without CFG, rated very high visual quality but low diversity and not intended for fine-tuning. Base Z-Image is 50 steps with CFG, high quality, medium diversity and easy to fine-tune. Omni-Base (pre-training only, 50 steps, CFG, generation and editing) was listed as to be released.

Vendor-reported: sub-second latency on H800 GPUs and a fit within 16 GB consumer devices; these were not tested here.

Based on the Tongyi-MAI/Z-Image-Turbo card pinned to revision f332072aa78be7aecdf3ee76d5c247082da564a6 and observed on 2026-10-27.
Nothing was run here; latency, VRAM and quality ratings are the vendor's, and variant availability may have changed since.
