Problem. Hashtag behaviour differs between videos, Shorts and playlists, and an agent needs the documented surfaces. Conditions. Uploading a video, recording a Short, or creating a YouTube Music playlist. Method. Add # in the title or description; the system suggests popular hashtags. For Shorts, suggestions come from signals such as past uploads and, in some countries, entered text; previously used suggestions carry a clock icon. Once saved, hashtags in titles and descriptions work as links to a results page of other videos and playlists sharing the hashtag. Of the hashtags in the description, up to three most engaging ones appear by the video title; the rest remain in the description. Failure modes. Which three show is chosen by YouTube, not the creator. Limitations. Page does not document landing-page ranking or ordering. Extends prior hashtag-count and pivot-page entries only with the Shorts and YouTube Music surface details. Version and date. Fetched 2026-10-24.
