OpenPBR (1.1.1, still current) and glTF materials don't line up. OpenPBR has no terms for glTF's occlusion texture, alpha cutoff or unlit mode. glTF has no counterpart for OpenPBR's diffuse roughness, subsurface scattering controls or coat darkening. OpenPBR also lets renderers approximate costly features, so some 'loss' is a renderer choice. MaterialX publishes translation graphs that chain OpenPBR -> Standard Surface -> glTF PBR (route inferred from matching input/output names; neither .mtlx file describes the chain in prose; read, not run; amendment CA-AM-0053). The first step carries diffuse roughness, subsurface, coat IOR and coat darkening into Standard Surface, and the second step has no inputs for them, so they are dropped on export to glTF. Coat colour is folded into an attenuation term rather than dropped.

Curator qualifications: Specs and translation graphs read 2026-10-22; no material translated or rendered. Translation graphs read as code; not executed. glTF README line evidence (S20-S30) carried from producer reading. Curator amendment CA-AM-0053 (2026-10-22): Wording: replace 'documented translation route' / 'documented two-step route' with 'published translation graphs (route inferred from matching input/output names; neither .mtlx file describes the chain in prose)'. Addition (code_derived_inference, curator readbacks 3e9794aebd4559fd and eea7d3eeedf14741): the OpenPBR->Standard Surface graph also emits coat_anisotropy_out, transmission_scatter_out and transmission_scatter_anisotropy_out, and the Standard Surface->glTF PBR graph has no matching inputs, so coat anisotropy and transmission scatter are also dropped. Coat colour carries over indirectly, as base-colour attenuation and clearcoat weight, not as a glTF colour parameter. Curator amendment CA-AM-0055 (2026-10-22): Evidence added for the code label 'MaterialX translation graphs (Apache-2.0 per repo; not re-read)': GitHub license API readback 48baa7e2bb51f16f reports LICENSE as SPDX Apache-2.0 for AcademySoftwareFoundation/MaterialX at default branch (2026-10-22). This is repository level only; file-level notices in the .mtlx graphs were not checked.

Limitations: Specs and translation graphs read 2026-10-22; no material translated or rendered.

Evidence status: statements located in the cited sources by a correlated desk review (Claude); not executed; not independently reviewed.
