# Property by property, what do the OpenPBR 1.1.1 specification and the Khronos glTF material READMEs each define for the properties a glTF to OpenPBR conversion must carry?

OpenPBR v1.1.1 on main (f8d6d947, merged 2026-04-17) contains no glTF text and no retroreflection, occlusion or alpha-cutoff terms, so no source read states a glTF-to-OpenPBR mapping. The glTF retroreflection extension (Release Candidate) says it matches OpenPBR's specular_retroreflectivity, a parameter merged on 2026-02-23 into OpenPBR's dev_1.2 branch, not v1.1.1, which explains the producer-flagged contradiction. glTF dispersion stores 20/V_d (stated as OpenPBR's transform) and emissive strength is a unitless multiplier, while OpenPBR emission_luminance is in nits.

Curator qualifications: Curator resolution: the retroreflection README refers to dev_1.2 work; treat specular_retroreflectivity as not in OpenPBR v1.1.1. Parameter-by-parameter role mappings (F0-F4, F8, F10, F11) are producer synthesis and were not reinspected line by line; MaterialX translation listing (E20) not re-queried. Rights: the producer conflict entry concerns Khronos README copyright vs glTF repository licence status; not reinspected in this batch. Text and GitHub metadata only; no material converted. Curator amendment CA-AM-0101 (2026-10-22): Re-fetched 2026-10-22, all byte-equal to the pins at glTF 7cee0fcd: KHR_materials_iridescence 82bab5b7ab0dbccb, anisotropy 39a8c807d640fd4c, transmission 8b71e3544b56543f, volume 390b9d9d8fdd86d9. Compared with the curator's OpenPBR v1.1.1 readback 3bec2edd0abd1f6a. F5 confirmed: glTF iridescenceIor default 1.3; thickness min/max default 100/400 nanometers, mixed by texture.g ('thickness = mix(min, max, texture.g)'), and min may exceed max. OpenPBR thin_film_thickness is in micrometers, default 0.5, with thin_film_ior default 1.4. F6 confirmed: glTF anisotropyStrength default 0.0, multiplied by the texture blue channel; anisotropyRotation is in radians counter-clockwise from the tangent; the texture's red/green channels give direction. OpenPBR specular_roughness_anisotropy is in [0,1] with direction from geometry_tangent. F7 strengthened: glTF transmission is 'infinitely-thin', and KHR_materials_volume thicknessFactor > 0 'switches from thin-walled to volumetric behavior' (thickness in mesh space). The volume extension defines sigma_t = -log(c)/d from attenuationColor c and attenuationDistance d, with Beer's law. OpenPBR defines mu_t = -ln(T)/lambda from transmission_color and transmission_depth. The two are the same formula, an exact mapping and not only a role resemblance. The glTF thin-wall rule (thickness 0) corresponds to OpenPBR's separate geometry_thin_walled Boolean. New same-document inconsistency in glTF KHR_materials_volume: the property table calls attenuationDistance the 'average distance that light travels in the medium before interacting with a particle', which is a mean-free-path reading (1/sigma_t). The normative formula in the same README makes d the distance at which white light reaches colour c, and the two

Limitations: Spec versions move; dev_1.2 not read.

Evidence claims:
- [sourced_fact] OpenPBR v1.1.1 on main (f8d6d947, merged 2026-04-17) contains no glTF text and no retroreflection, occlusion or alpha-cutoff terms, so no source read states a glTF-to-OpenPBR mapping. · locator: OpenPBR index.html at f8d6d947; gh api -X GET OpenPBR commits/f8d6d947; glTF KHR_materials_retroreflection README at 7cee0fcd, lines 10-35, 153; gh api -X GET OpenPBR pulls/255; KHR_materials_dispersion README lines 73-76; KHR_materials_emissive_strength README lines 56-59 · source: https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/OpenPBR/blob/f8d6d947dfae4c9b599965a86c22826ea7a8dbfb/index.html
