1916 US practice. Sargent states no checklist for a built plot. The whole word 'test' occurs once in Ch. XXIII-XXIV, in 'test scenario' (a trial scenario); 'outline', 'premise', 'conflict', 'obstacle' and 'logic' occur nowhere in the two chapters (script counts, lower bounds). The checks that can be read out of his comments are: narrative value before picture value (14); is this the usual development, along 'the lines of least resistance', or something the studios already hold (12); would it read as a report instead of scenes (13); is there a villain, a clear plot-question, suspense, crises of marked quality, and a hero who shapes events (16, 18, 21); does the rebuilt scenario beat the original in dramatic and pictorial value (23); is the document a scenario and not a bare synopsis (33); does the story seem to unfold itself (XXIII 35-36); and does it still satisfy after a few weeks set aside (38). All are judgements by the writer; none is a measurement.

Curator qualifications: Plot-getting routes, the two worked methods, the four-revision Ben and Mary build and the named faults are verified as Sargent's text. The comparison row (-08) is synthesis by candidate ID, and the -09 build-and-check is a labelled proposal.

Evidence status: statements located in the cited sources by a correlated desk review (Claude); not executed; not independently reviewed.
