Video.js changed approach between versions. Video.js 10 renders captions natively so FCC-required OS caption preferences apply (decision dated 2026-02-26), offers menus only for captions and subtitles, has no caption-appearance menu, and points audio description to a described audio track. Video.js 8.24.2 had a Descriptions button and showed description cues in its own display with aria-live assertive, giving captions and subtitles priority when both were on. Moving from v8 to v10 drops the built-in text-description path.
