FIAF's Technical Commission (2010) accepts only a DCDM or an unencrypted DCP for long-term preservation: the DCDM is ideal but may never exist as a complete set, while the unencrypted DCP is lossy but shows the work exactly as audiences saw it. FIAF's 2019 survey counted unencrypted DCP deposit at 9 archives and DCDM at 7, and LoC's 2025-2026 RFS prefers an unencrypted interop DCP for motion pictures, asking depositors to contact it about DCDM/DSM.
