This is the official home of the source code for the Khronos KTX library and tools. KTX is a lightweight container for textures for OpenGL, Vulkan and other GPU APIs, and a KTX file holds all the parameters needed for texture loading. A single file can hold anything from a simple 2D texture to a cubemap array texture with mipmaps, in Basis Universal, block-compressed or uncompressed formats.

What it supplies: This is the official home of the source code for the Khronos KTX library and tools. Useful for: - Create, convert, encode, transcode, deflate, extract, compare, inspect and validate KTX2 files with the ktx command-line tool. - Read and write KTX files and create OpenGL, OpenGL ES and Vulkan textures with libktx, or use the JavaScript, Java and Python wrappers. - Use Basis Universal textures that can be quickly transcoded to any GPU-supported format. First action: - Download a release for the tools, library and development headers, or the JavaScript wrappers and .wasm binaries. - Read the live documentation for API and tool usage. - Install Git LFS before cloning the repository, and run git lfs checkout if it was installed late. - Choose extra components such as Development or Java Wrapper in the installer, since only the ktx tool and libktx runtime install by default. Prerequisites and limits: - Git LFS, at least version 1.1, is needed to fully check out the repository. - Building instructions are in BUILDING.md; the conformance test suite is a separate submodule that is not needed for building. - A clone without Git LFS is not a full checkout. - Desktop installers include only the ktx tool and libktx runtime by default. - The ktx tool's tests are in a separate repository. The README points to LICENSE.md for licensing, and its file header carries an SPDX Apache-2.0 identifier, which applies to the README itself, so read LICENSE.md for the terms of the code. Textures you convert carry their own rights. Written from the README text only. Statements are as the README gives them; nothing was installed or run and no texture was converted. Based on README text only; the live documentation, LICENSE.md and BUILDING.md were not read. No install or run was made.
