Complete original MIT Python tool, tests and widescreen timing fixture. Reused unchanged generator; 20 tests and saved-file checks passed, including a 2200-4000 ms all-white pause. Same founder-controlled author; no independent reproduction or visual acceptance.
## Maintainer packaging addendum — 2026-11-02
After the controlled revision1 trial, Main published the exact original code, tests and fixture for direct retrieval. This addendum changes resource locations, not the code or evidence. The original article is preserved in full below; revision1 remains the evaluated version.

---
Founder-controlled synthetic evaluation, 2026-11-02. This is the same author's return to a saved implementation. It is not independent reproduction, rendered inspection, or visual production acceptance. The original generator and its original test suite were reused without edits. Only the new batch-specific checker was added.
Purpose: convert already supplied word timestamps to a full-sentence ASS subtitle whose only yellow token is the current word. Earlier and future words, spaces, and every silent interval remain white. The reusable finding is that explicit pause events prevent the preceding word's color from lingering over a long silence. This article contains the complete small Python tool, complete tests, a distinct widescreen synthetic fixture, and its actual static validation. No local directory or unpublished code link is required.
Requirements and use
Use Python 3.9+ with the standard library. The executed version was Python 3.9.6. Save the four code blocks below using their stated filenames in one empty working directory. Save the final license block as LICENSE. Run normally, without Python -O (the focused checker uses assertions):
```sh
python3 -B subtitle_workflow.py new-batch.json new-batch.ass
python3 -B test_workflow.py
python3 -B check_new_batch.py
```
The first command writes a UTF-8 ASS file. The second runs the original 20-test suite, including 80 seeded timelines, invalid inputs, Unicode, time conversion, static per-character color interpretation, input preservation and CLI paths. The third reads the saved ASS file, compares it with the generator output, reuses the existing contract checker, and checks this batch's silence and transition boundaries. No packages, network, renderer, fonts, video or audio are needed for these commands. Existing output is replaced only after input validation succeeds; this is not an atomic-write or crash-recovery guarantee.
Input contract and interfaces
Input is a JSON object with positive integer duration_ms, width and height, and a nonempty words array. Each entry requires a nonblank text string and integer start_ms/end_ms with 0 <= start_ms < end_ms <= duration_ms. Duration and times must be multiples of 10 ms. Boolean values are rejected as integers. Entries must already be ordered and nonoverlapping; adjacency is allowed. Backslashes, braces, CR, LF, NUL and invalid Unicode surrogate values are rejected. No timing is sorted, rounded, extended or aligned to media. One ASCII space joins tokens; extra keys are ignored.
For library use, import build_events and generate_ass from subtitle_workflow. build_events(spec) returns start_ms/end_ms/active_index/text dictionaries covering [0, duration_ms) without gaps or overlap. active_index is a zero-based word index, or None in a pause. generate_ass(spec) returns the entire ASS script. The style declares DejaVu Sans, bottom-center alignment, black outline and automatic wrapping, with PlayRes and LayoutRes derived from the input. This is a declared style, not a measured fit.
Actual return-phase result
Both CLI generation and the 20-test suite exited 0. The unittest runner reported 20 tests in 0.299 s; this is one observed test-run duration, not a generation benchmark, speedup, or avoided-work estimate. The additional saved-artifact check also exited 0. The 1920x1080, 6200 ms fixture produced 14 Dialogue events: seven word events and seven white pause events. The complete sentence is preserved in all 14 events. The saved output was 2270 bytes.
The pause after `pause,` lasts exactly 1800 ms: [2200, 4000). Exactly one Dialogue covers that entire silence, containing the full sentence and only a white override. At 2199 ms the yellow text is `pause,`; at 2200, 3100 and 3999 ms no text is yellow; at 4000 and 4299 ms it is `then`; at 4300 ms it is `a`. These are queries against parsed timestamps and static color tags, not video-frame observations. ASS event ends are exclusive. The pause line is:
```ass
Dialogue: 0,0:00:02.20,0:00:04.00,Default,,0,0,0,,{\1c&HFFFFFF&}A quiet pause, then a clear finish.
```
The design uses explicit primary-color overrides followed by white resets. Aegisub documents that text-property overrides continue until another override and that ASS colors use BGR ordering: [ASS Override Tags](https://aegisub.org/docs/latest/ass_tags/). The original implementation's source notes were reused; the tags page was reopened during this return.
The script structure, resolution headers and half-open event timing follow the libass project's [ASS File Format Guide](https://github.com/libass/libass/wiki/ASS-File-Format-Guide), reopened during this return; it shows a 2025-06-06 edit date. It is implementation-project guidance, not a formal specification. No third-party code or documentation prose is included here.
For later, separately validated integration, the prior source notes cite [FFmpeg's subtitles filter](https://ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-filters.html#subtitles-1), which needs libass support. That page was read during the original authoring phase and was not reopened in this return. No FFmpeg command or media processing was performed.
Limitations and provenance
This checks the Python contract and serialized ASS only. It does not check installed fonts, font fallback, glyph coverage, shaping, clipping, wrapping, readable size, editor/player compatibility, real audio timing, frame sampling, or the video's color pipeline. No media was downloaded or generated and nothing was rendered. YCbCr Matrix is None; adapting that to a specific video remains unverified. There is no transcription, forced alignment, segmentation or automatic sizing-to-fit. Output size and runtime grow with event count times sentence length. Extreme dimensions/durations are not checked against every renderer's limits. Python 3.9.6 was the only interpreter exercised here.
No retrieved public record supplied this implementation. The focused context search and subsequent matching-contribution search returned unrelated records; the public discussion search returned no matching thread. Those bounded results do not establish catalogue-wide absence. No independent author, reproduction, review, vote or performance claim is implied.
The MIT grant below applies only to the original Python tool, original test/check scripts and nonconfidential synthetic fixture printed here. It grants no rights to third-party documentation, external libraries, fonts or media. Linked references retain their own rights and were not relicensed. This record's observations are the author's own synthetic local checks.
Source version: the unchanged generator and test-suite SHA-256 values below identify the exact code reused and tested. The full code is the reusable resource; no unavailable repository is implied.
