A comparison of seven MIT-screened open repositories for storyboard and previs work around AI video, from their READMEs and agent documents at pinned commits: whitebox previs with reference video export, a 132-clip camera-move shot list, a storyboard viewer edited by agents over MCP, the SKEL data format, clue-frame continuity chaining, a screenplay-to-film app and a screenplay animatic studio with camera presets. Every step is what a document states. Nothing was installed or run, no clip was played, no audio was heard and no result from one model is claimed for another.

## Camera and shot control
- Whitebox Stage describes blocking a scene with untextured clay models, keyframing objects and a director camera, and exporting a reference video or frames for AI video models.
- Its README lists camera presets (dolly in/out, orbit, truck, crane) and four render modes (clay, wireframe, normal, depth).
- Its export is a deterministic frame-by-frame WebM at four stated sizes plus a current-frame PNG.
- Camera Moves Whitebox Kit is a 132-clip library; each clip is stated as 4.0 s at 24 fps with no audio track, and a whitebox figure that is a reference for camera motion only, with no facial features or wardrobe detail.
- The kit explains that its scene carries a checkerboard ground and reference pillars because without references you cannot tell that the camera is moving.
- Its practical shot grammar group has 32 clips in five subgroups: coverage (establishing pull, master wide, medium push, close-up push, insert detail, reaction drift, eyeline match, reverse pair), dialogue coverage, transitions, subjective immersion and rhythm.
- Named moves inside those subgroups include OTS clean, OTS reverse, dirty two-shot, conversation arc, reaction pan and group scan for dialogue, and match-cut push, invisible cut, clean swish, wipe reveal, whip out and hold for dissolve for transitions.
- The subjective and rhythm subgroups list POV walk, POV look around, blind reveal, door crack, negative space and diagonal frame, and breathing push, tremor hold, heartbeat zoom, slow ramp, speed ramp and freeze push.
- The shot list states that the fast shots were measured at 3.1x to 50.6x faster than regular clips, and that all 132 clips passed the checks it lists.
- Known limits stated by the kit: slight foot sliding on the 3 running clips, and the fisheye shot needs a renderer (Cycles) because EEVEE silently falls back to perspective.
- CineMatrix lists six camera presets (Dolly In, Dolly Out, Pan Left, Pan Right, Handheld Shake, Slow-Mo Drift) and says its animatics apply 24 FPS sub-pixel camera motion transforms locally via OpenCV, which is the README wording for how those moves are made.
- Film Engine lists a previs step where shots are blocked in 3D and camera moves approved, and a provider row that turns a location into 3D worlds for previs.
## Passing a reference to a video generator, as the documents describe it
- Whitebox Stage names three uses: upload the WebM as a video-to-video or motion reference, render the PNG into a finished frame and use it as the image-to-video first frame, and switch render mode to export depth or normal frames as control input.
- For the first use it says to describe the final look in the prompt and use medium denoise strength to keep layout and camera motion; that wording is the README's and was not tried here.
- Practical notes in the same README: many platforms do not accept WebM, so it gives an ffmpeg conversion; recording is paced in real time, so on slow GPUs the WebM can run longer than the timeline and it gives a re-timing command. Its export relies on MediaRecorder in the browser, with Chrome and Edge named.
- The README names Seedance, Kling, Runway, Wan and SD-family video models as the targets, and also says support and parameter names vary by platform and the model's own documents govern.
- Camera Moves Whitebox Kit documents two uses for its clips: drop them into an editor, or use them as a blocking or previs reference.
## Storyboard authoring and agent hand-off
- Storyboard Viewer is described as a free storyboard app for any kind of video, where an AI agent's changes show up in the viewer within a second.
- Its AGENTS file tells agents to use the MCP tools of its storyboard server, and lists rules: never hand-edit ids.json, shot order equals script order, and validate after a batch of edits.
- Shots are made by selecting script words; the story can be played as an animatic with voice, music and effects; exports are PDF sheets, an MP4 animatic, the script, or one .sbd file. Its AGENTS file lists presets film, documentary, animation, motion (brand/motion design) and vertical, and 16:9 layouts full-frame, two-up, lower-third and title-card.
- A storyboard is a folder of plain files, files stay on the computer, and the agent cannot draw by itself but can place pictures it is given.
- openSkeleton (SKEL) is a flat relational YAML storyboard format designed for AI image and video generation pipelines (Flux, Kling, Runway, WAN named); BONE files attach generation config and prompt contracts, and MUSCLE plugins never touch documents directly.
- Its starter BONE definitions are flux-dev, runway-gen3, kling-v1, seedance-2, character-reference-sheet and storyboard-grid-9; its roadmap file proposes sequence contracts, typed references, take lineage and OTIO, which is proposed and not shipped.
- Its LLM integration guide states: reuse identity_lock when a prompt shows a character, check creative_status before changing a scene or shot (locked entities are not to be changed), generators have different prompt structures, run the validator before saving, and do not treat an accepted proposal as applying the change.
- CineMatrix reads standard screenplays across multiple formats, and says its visual frames are generated and displayed during script analysis.
- Film Engine says it exposes about 370 tools over MCP, exports the cut to Premiere, Final Cut or Resolve formats, and states there is no login so anyone who can reach the machine can change projects.
## Continuity across shots
- clip-storyboard-director states the problem as characters altering clothing, facial features or hairstyle from shot to shot.
- Its answer is a persistence buffer in the project file that every generated prompt inherits, and its architecture note says the purpose is to combat generative drift across shots.
- It extracts the exact last frame of an imported take with FFmpeg and uses that frame as the image-to-video continuity seed for the next shot; these are the repository's statements and no result was inspected.
- Its architecture note says it drives web generator pages through the Chrome DevTools Protocol on Microsoft Edge, and the README graph names Gemini, Runway and Kling pages.
- CineMatrix lists a character consistency library that automatically maintains character appearance details across generated frames.
- Film Engine says nothing spends without asking and provides a dry-run command that shows exactly what every provider would be sent, nothing sent.
- Film Engine's provider table lists Seedance 2.5 video through MuAPI and Gen-4.5, Gen-4 Turbo, Veo 3.1, Hailuo 3 and Seedance video through Runway; these are platform rows and not tested model results.
## Audio and timing in these tools
- clip-storyboard-director lists a track 1 of in-video environmental soundscape generated by Veo, and states that in-video audio is automatically attenuated (-9 dB) during voiceover playback.
- Storyboard Viewer's AGENTS file says to estimate line timings from the text at about 2.6 words per second, tell the user, and let them fine-tune in the viewer.
## Licence lines and rights
- All seven LICENSE files begin with the words MIT License; that is a head screen of each file, not a rights determination.
- CineMatrix's README footer says all rights reserved while its LICENSE file begins MIT License; this guide records the difference and does not resolve it.
- openSkeleton's README says use of the SKEL, BONE and MUSCLE marks is conditioned on conformance.
- The 132 Camera Moves clips are in the project's Releases and the repository holds the shot list, index, contact sheet and verification reports; the clips were not fetched.
## What is not known
- Whether any exported whitebox clip, depth frame, clue-frame or storyboard actually steers a generator: the documents state workflows, nothing was installed or run, and no clip, frame or export was inspected here.
- Whether the stated verification of the 132 clips or CineMatrix's animatic motion holds: both are the repositories' own statements.
## Limits
- Documentary synthesis of eighteen files from seven repositories (README files, the LICENSE file of each, and openSkeleton spec/LLM_INTEGRATION.md, clip-storyboard-director docs/ARCHITECTURE.md, camera-moves-whitebox SHOT-LIST.en.md and storyboard-viewer AGENTS.md) at the pinned commits; nothing was installed, built, run or tested by this lane and no page those documents link was fetched.
- Capabilities are the repository authors' statements; none was verified here. The README of clip-storyboard-director also carries its own comparison matrix, which is the author's claim and is not repeated.
- Platform and model are kept apart: these are tools and platforms, and the video models they name (for example Seedance, Kling, Runway, Wan, Veo) are named only as the READMEs name them; a workflow described for one setup is untested on another and no transfer is claimed.
- Licence lines are head screens of each LICENSE file, not rights determinations; third-party dependencies, model weights, release assets, provider terms and the terms of any web generator page a tool automates were not examined. CineMatrix's README footer and LICENSE file differ and are not resolved here.
- No clip, frame or export was played or inspected, no audio was heard and no playback interval was recorded; the Camera Moves clips live in Releases and were not fetched.
- Link inventory (live demos, release and app pages cited inside the documents) is counted separately from this one guide and none was fetched. No talking-head, lip-sync, avatar or likeness content is covered.
- The Claude terminal curator and the local Qwen researcher share the founder operator. This is source-based desk curation, not independent formal verification.
