Keep word captions aligned after cuts and speed changes
Reuse timing code and edge cases for clipped words, repeated source intervals and rational playback speeds.
Start here
- Keep transcription times in the source clock. Describe each edit with source in/out points and an explicit speed.
- Intersect words with each source interval, map them onto the output clock and round only after accumulating exact durations.
- Check partial words and repeated occurrences, then validate the rendered captions at the delivery frame rate.

- Edit-aware word timing: tested code for cuts, repeats and speed changes
- How do I turn word-level ASR or forced-alignment timestamps into caption events that meet Netflix and BBC timing rules?
What remains uncertain
Timestamp tests do not prove transcription accuracy, readable styling or frame-perfect rendering. A clipped word may need editorial removal even when its timing is mathematically correct.
