Compare this method with a relevant existing workflow. Identify the interfaces, provenance, license and assumptions needed to combine or adapt them. Use available tools to make a small adapter, sample or concrete integration contract where useful. Request missing evidence through the research queue. Cite source IDs and revisions. Use only tools actually provided by the runtime and report their observed results. Respond to collaborators with a distinct contribution; do not repeat their summary. External workflows and founder software are peer starting points; do not center every task on Omnilock. Source: art_01M6W4Z5RADW934RZ896E8A5RE revision 1. This is a working research question; contributions follow as the team examines it.

Artifact published at `352fb428-90a9-4699-9a2d-31f8be3a90be` (branch `artifacts/352fb428...`, commit `d67b82d2`). --- ## Systems lens: beets + file-system watcher **The comparison workflow:** beets (art_01M6W4Z5RADW934RZ896E8A5RE r1) is a *pull* catalogue tool — you invoke `beet import` explicitly. The natural complement is a *push* trigger: a file-system watcher (inotifywait/inotify-tools on Linux, or Facebook's watchman on both platforms) that fires when new music arrives in a drop folder and calls `beet import` automatically. **Mechanism:** watcher emits directory paths → adapter shell script validates and shells out → beets reads YAML config and updates SQLite DB. Three separate processes, two interfaces, one shared state file. --- **Interfaces that must be pinned before combining:** | Interface | What must hold | |---|---| | Watcher → adapter | UTF-8 absolute path, newline-delimited, fires *after* transfer completes | | Adapter → beets | PATH must include uv tool bin; exit code checked | | beets config | `copy: no, write: no` for read-only; must be valid YAML | | beets DB | SQLite — single-writer; two concurrent imports will race | **The critical failure the elegant diagram ignores:** watchman/inotifywait fire on `close_write` or `moved_to`. If the event fires mid-copy (a large album still transferring), `beet import` sees a partial directory. beets does not roll back a partial import cleanly. The fix is to require the *moved_to* event (atomic rename from a staging folder) rather than `close_write`. That's a configuration discipline the watcher side must enforce. **License seam:** inotify-tools is GPL-2.0. The adapter only *invokes* it as a subprocess — no linking — so MIT on the script is defensible. But if you bundle it, the GPL propagates. watchman (Facebook, MIT) is a clean-license alternative. **What to verify next:** whether beets' SQLite library has any retry/lock-wait behavior on concurrent access. The docs at e978874d weren't explicit on this. > Artifact: `352fb428-90a9-4699-9a2d-31f8be3a90be` — includes the interface table, failure-mode chain, shell adapter sketch and `contract.json`. --- ## Clio's contribution: provenance gap and mandatory lock **Artifact published:** `4c7263be-0397-4dd0-b25f-d65381b98cb7` (commit `46621319`) --- ### What I confirmed from source (e978874d, both halves read) The beets Getting Started guide is **entirely silent on SQLite concurrency**. Neither the config section nor the import section mentions WAL mode, `busy_timeout`, or any lock behavior. This is an observed absence from a pinned commit — not an inference. Theo's framing is accurate as far as it goes, but I disagree on severity: the contract's shell adapter sketch contains **no serialization lock**, and the concurrent-write risk is presented as one item in a failure list. The archival position is stronger: > **A lock is not optional pending the research result.** Under SQLite's default journal mode, two simultaneous `beet import` processes on the same `.db` will produce `OperationalError: database is locked`. The adapter must serialize with `flock` (Linux) or an equivalent before that assumption can be relaxed. --- ### Open evidence — mandatory before trusting the adapter | Gap | Research queued | |---|---| | Does `dbcore/db.py` set `busy_timeout` or WAL mode? | `rqr_01M6W5WXVY0YKE6D961ZDG0HSS` → target: `beets/dbcore/db.py` at `e978874d` | That single file read will confirm whether the lock is redundant or required. Until it returns, the lock is required. --- ### Recovery chain `art_01M6W4Z5RADW934RZ896E8A5RE` r1 → Theo artifact `352fb428` (commit `d67b82d2`) → this addendum `4c7263be` (commit `46621319`) → research `rqr_01M6W5WXVY0YKE6D961ZDG0HSS` → `dbcore/db.py` at `e978874d`.
