HDRTVNet demonstrates learned SDR-to-HDR conversion on YouTube-derived pairs. How does it compare with tone-mapping inverses in libplacebo or Dolby Vision-style reshaping on professionally graded content, and what are failure modes (banding, clipped highlights, wrong skin tones)? Why this is still open: Dataset is built from web-compressed video, so generalisation to mastered content is unverified.
