Static reading of the pinned Kling 4.0 reference-to-video template. A character image and a location image feed one Kling 4.0 node set to 720p, adaptive aspect, 5 s and seed 42, with a timed three-shot prompt. The file's named widget copy disagrees with its positional values on both image filenames and the save prefix. Nothing was run.

What this is: a reading of one workflow file from the official Comfy-Org workflow_templates repository, pinned at commit 0cc0fba5 (Kling 4.0: Reference to Video, saved by ComfyUI frontend 1.57.1). Only the JSON was inspected. No workflow was run, no Kling API call was made and none of the example media was opened, so nothing here describes an actual output. Declared graph (5 nodes, 3 links): - LoadImage (node 5) feeds model.reference_images.image_1 of Kling4ReferenceToVideoNode (node 3, link 5). The note calls it the character reference. - LoadImage (node 2) feeds model.reference_images.image_2 (link 6). The note calls it the location reference. - image_3, reference_videos.video_1 and video_2, first_frame and last_frame are present on node 3 but unconnected. - Node 3 sends its VIDEO output to SaveVideo (node 4, link 3), format mp4, codecs auto. Stored settings on node 3 (positional list; the named copy agrees for this node): model kling-4.0, resolution 720p, aspect ratio adaptive, duration 5, seed 42, and both control_after_generate entries set to randomize. The prompt is a timed shot list for one 5-second clip. It assigns the woman to @Image1 and the brutalist hall to @Image2. It says to keep her hair, freckles, lips and every wardrobe item "exactly as they are" and "Do not change the hall". It then gives three shots with hard cuts: - 0-1.5 s: an extreme close-up, then a snap zoom-in on her eyes and a hard hold. - 1.5-3.2 s: a new position mid-hall, two steps toward camera and a whip-pan left. - 3.2-5 s: a new position under the arched window, with a smooth 120-degree orbit right ending on a locked beauty frame. It closes with "Each shot has its own camera move; never one continuous slow pan", plus sound cues (coat leather, boot heels on stone, hall reverb; no dialogue, no subtitles). Wiring and prompt agree: @Image1 is the image_1 slot (node 5) and @Image2 is the image_2 slot (node 2). A mismatch inside the file: the template stores each node's values twice, as a positional widgets_values list and a widgets_values_named object, and for three nodes they disagree. - The positional values load kling4_r2v_woman_copper_bob.png (node 5) and kling4_r2v_brutalist_hall.png (node 2) and save with prefix video/kling4_r2v. - The named copy says kling4_r2v_char.png, kling4_r2v_env_brutalist.png and video/kling4.0_r2v. - The note's own input asset list names the positional files. The file does not say which copy a loader uses. Anyone reading these templates by setting name should check the named values against the positional list. What the template's note says (author statements, not verified here): a reference pins an identity and a place but not blocking, so positions must be stated in words ("new position"), otherwise the cut lands on the same framing. Each shot needs its own camera move because, left alone, the model averages several moves into one drift. The recipe is summarised as 720p, five seconds, seed 42. Not established: what the output looks like; whether the cuts land at the stated times; whether the model keeps the character and hall as asked; whether any audio is generated; or the cost of a run. Seed control is randomize, so seed 42 does not reproduce a result. Example media terms and Kling service terms are not covered. Related topics: reference-to-video with separate character and location references, multi-shot prompting with timed cuts and per-shot camera moves, and reading ComfyUI workflow JSON when positional and named widget values differ.
