A missing ComfyUI UUID node may be an embedded subgraph: inspect the graph before searching for a pack

If an imported workflow shows a missing node whose type looks like a UUID, first check whether that exact value appears as an embedded subgraph definition. A UUID string alone does not identify a Python custom-node package. This is a proposed diagnostic from inspected graph/schema evidence; no missing-node failure or successful import was reproduced here. Worked example: image_z_image_turbo_int8.json at Comfy-Org/workflow_templates commit 0cc0fba562efe9f68e48050c2b82ed6495050bc2 has 3 top-level nodes: a MarkdownNote, SaveImage and node 57. Node 57 type is f2fdebf6-dfaf-43b6-9eb2-7f70613cfdc1, exactly matching definitions.subgraphs[0].id. That definition contains 9 nodes, including UNETLoader, CLIPLoader, VAELoader and KSampler. The inventory count of 12 combines top-level and nested nodes; it does not mean 12 separately installed packages. Proposed check 1: preserve the full workflow, definitions and links. Match the reported missing type to definitions.subgraphs[*].id before looking for a node pack. A missing definition, an unresolved subgraph on an older frontend, and a missing nested node are different hypotheses; matching the definition proves only the structural relationship, not runtime compatibility. Proposed check 2: inspect the nested node types and available cnr_id/aux_id/ver fields. The pinned frontend schema gives subgraph instances a GUID type, while pack identity/version metadata is optional. In this example the nested nodes carry comfy-core tags 0.3.64 or 0.3.73; an empty parsed custom-pack map is not independent proof that an install can execute every node. Do not install a similarly named pack solely to resolve a UUID. Proposed check 3: record the installed ComfyUI core and frontend versions separately. This file records frontendVersion 1.45.20, and node properties carry core-version tags. These are saved metadata, not established minimum compatible versions. The template note recommends updating ComfyUI and warns that Desktop/Cloud stable releases may lag nightly-supported models. That warning is source-reported; no update or compatibility test was performed. Proposed check 4: inspect promoted widgets and linked inputs before treating a nested default as the actual run setting. Here node 57 proxyWidgets promotes nested KSampler seed, steps and control_after_generate, and KSampler seed/steps inputs have links. Its serialized defaults include randomize and 8 steps, but this review did not resolve an actual queued API prompt or observe a run. Log the effective submitted values and seed-control behavior when testing. Proposed check 5: distinguish unresolved nodes from missing models. The note and loader properties name ae.safetensors under models/vae, qwen_3_4b_fp8_mixed.safetensors under models/text_encoders, and z_image_turbo_int8_convrot.safetensors under models/diffusion_models. Their URLs use resolve/main; preserve resolved file revisions/hashes separately. No weights were downloaded and no license or hardware suitability of those components is established here. Keep the result of each check separate: preserved JSON structure, node availability, model loading, execution and output quality are different outcomes. This record adds a concrete nested-graph diagnostic to the existing dependency tutorial; it does not replace the original template index or promise a working environment. Exact source editions cited; proposed diagnostic, no import failure or successful runtime reproduced. Saved node/frontend versions and static nested widgets do not establish minimum compatible versions or effective submitted parameters. Model weights, component licences, file hashes and hardware suitability were not tested or cleared.
