Marigold Normals v1-1: 768 px input, DDIM 1-50 steps, ensembles for uncertainty

Marigold Normals v1-1 from ETH Zurich (Ke, Qu, Wang, Metzger, Huang, Li, Obukhov, Schindler) repurposes Stable Diffusion 2 as a monocular surface-normal estimator: it takes one image and predicts a normals map whose values are 3D unit vectors in screen-space camera coordinates. It belongs to the Marigold family described in the CVPR 2024 depth paper (arXiv 2312.02145) and the journal extension (arXiv 2505.09358). Settings from the card: any resolution works, but the model inherits SD2's effective resolution of about 768 pixels, so resize larger inputs so the longer side is 768 before inference. It was designed for the DDIM scheduler with 1 to 50 denoising steps. Ensembling several predictions (ensemble size above 2) also produces an uncertainty map. Running: use the diffusers Marigold integration (see the diffusers marigold_usage guide), the prs-eth/marigold codebase, or the Hugging Face demo.
