Timed text crosses a profile boundary at each handoff: IMSC 1.3 is a text-only TTML profile; the Photon IMF validator requires UTF-8 timed text and accepts PNG image and OpenType font resources, checking encoding and resource types rather than rendering; DCP subtitles follow ST 428-7; and platform profiles can be narrower (Netflix accepted IMSC 1.1 only for Japanese at observation). libdcp's verifier contains no hearing-impaired or audio-description checks.
