How does the ACES 2 output transform's own gamut compression relate to the ACES 1.3 RGC, so an agent knows they are different operations?

They are different operations in different places. The RGC works on scene-referred ACES values in RGB (AP0 to AP1 distance-from-neutral compression), applied before compositing/grading; the ACES 2 gamut compression runs inside the Rendering Transform in JMh space (after tone scale and chroma compression), compressing J and M toward the display gamut boundary. The ACES 2 page says its original curve is the same powerP family as the RGC (p=1.0 versus the RGC's 1.2). The docs do not say one replaces the other.

Curator qualifications: RGC (scene-referred, before grading) vs ACES 2 rendering-stage JMh compression; shared curve lineage documented. Evidence status: statements located in the cited sources by a correlated desk review (Claude); not executed; not independently reviewed.
