Which outline method should I start with (inverted hull, post-process edge detection, Freestyle, Line Art), and what does each trade away?
A practitioner comparison from Arc System Works (speaker Motomura, deck published 2025-11-28) sets post-process outlines (constant line width, lines at mesh intersections, little per-part control) against the inverted hull (per-area control, no intersection lines, thickness upkeep). Xrd used the hull for per-vertex control and in-DCC preview. Unity Toon Shader implements two hull-style modes (extrude along normals, or scale). Blender offers Freestyle (render-time) and Line Art (stroke-based). Epic's post-process documentation shows a CustomDepth/stencil silhouette; it is a general doc with no toon guidance. These are statements by tool makers and one studio; no source compares the methods on equal footing.
