Do Maya, Unreal Engine and Houdini document ML-based deformation or simulation tools, and do they replace or complement the traditional rig/solver?
Yes for deformation, and in every page read the ML model is trained on the output of the existing rig or simulation and complements it. Maya's ML Deformer approximates a complex deformer for posing and playback or crowds and keeps the original deformer for final rendering; Unreal's ML Deformer approximates deformations at runtime from data made in Maya or Houdini and recommends Neural Morph for flesh-like and Nearest Neighbor for cloth, and Epic says Fortnite used it for muscles and cloth; Houdini (docs labelled 22.0) has ML Deform, an ML Deformer recipe that approximates an expensive flesh simulation, and an ML Volume Upres recipe for pyro. No vendor page read documents ML replacing a cloth or fluid solver; Houdini ML cloth was not found in pages read.
