At the library level, what exactly do ImageBufAlgo premult, unpremult and repremult do at alpha 0 and 1, and how do file-format reader/writer hints for PNG and TIFF interact with them?

In OpenImageIO, unpremult leaves pixels with alpha exactly 0 or 1 untouched; premult leaves alpha-1 pixels untouched and multiplies everything else (so colour at alpha 0 becomes zero), whereas repremult also leaves alpha-0 pixels untouched, preserving colour carried under zero alpha (e.g. after an unpremult round trip).

Curator qualifications: Docs/code read 2026-10-22; no image processed. PNG association-on-read, UnassociatedAlpha hints and IBA colour-function defaults per producer docs reading. Limitations: Docs/code read 2026-10-22; no image processed. Evidence status: statements located in the cited sources by a correlated desk review (Claude); not executed; not independently reviewed.
