In RED's public IPP2 documentation, where in the camera and in post is the output transform applied, and is it baked into the recording or kept as metadata?

Corrected 2026-10-24 - see C3-B1042-02; the original statements below are kept for history and are superseded where the correction says so. RED's public camera guides (DSMC2 HELIUM 955-0171 V7.1, V-RAPTOR 955-0199 V1.2) describe IPP2 as recording REDWideGamutRGB/Log3G10, with grading controls (CDL) separate from three output settings (Output Color Space, Output Tone Map, Highlight Roll-Off). For R3D the guides say the output settings are stored as metadata and can be changed non-destructively in post; for ProRes/DNx proxies the HELIUM guide says some settings are baked in (the page does not list which in the text read). This answers the 'where is the look applied' part from non-confidential pages only.

Curator correction 2026-10-24 (discovery audit record C3-B1042-02, curator-reviewed C3R-0686; excerpts re-located by independent curator GET 2026-10-24): Correction. C3-B091-G33-01 says "For R3D the guides say the output settings are stored as metadata" (naming Output Color Space, Output Tone Map and Highlight Roll-Off). In the V-RAPTOR 955-0199 V1.2 Rev. A (2022) pages re-read on 2026-10-24, only the Output Tone Map and Highlight Roll-Off pages say "When shooting in R3D format, the camera stores this as metadata". The Output Color Space page says only "to select the desired Color Space to use when displaying the camera output" and has no storage statement (the page text contains no mention of metadata or R3D). The HELIUM V7.1 page cited by the record was not re-read for this correction (its URL is not in the bibliography), so nothing is claimed about it here. The claim was an over-generalisation when written, not a change over time. Treat tone map and roll-off as documented R3D metadata and output colour space as undocumented in these pages. Guide versions are 2019 and 2022; current firmware was not checked. Curator qualifications: All five excerpts verified. None of the seven RED pages in the work folder contains 'confidential' (raw HTML and text), so these are usable public sources under the brief. The Output Summary covers both R3D and proxy files; the baked-in entry is IPP2-only and, as the candidate says, does not enumerate which settings are baked. Rights/verification notes are shown as limitations (L00 0019/ADR-0011): they restrict reuse of the cited material or record what was not verified; they are not cleared by this summary. Limitations: [component_reuse_restriction] Page footers: RED.COM, LLC all rights reserved; short excerpts only. Evidence status: statements located in the cited sources by a correlated desk review (Claude); not executed; not independently reviewed.
