Do cuts make viewers perceive a new event, and which kinds of edit line up with perceived event boundaries?
The inspected open sources agree that a cut by itself is not a boundary: in The Red Balloon the cut-boundary association disappeared once character, space, goal and other changes were controlled (Zacks et al. 2010). In a seven-participant VR replication using the Magliano-Zacks edit taxonomy, action-discontinuous edits were the strongest predictors of marked boundaries and continuity edits preserved continuity of action. In an edited film clip, viewers lacking prior context marked cross-cut shots 4 and 6 as new events more often (N=88). Limits are one film, one clip, and a small VR sample; Magliano & Zacks 2011 itself is already in the catalogue and was not re-read.

Curator qualifications: Batch excerpt check: 25/28 matched directly; the other 3 present with Unicode hyphen, curly quotes or spacing differences (e.g. '“[Jaws] will land on the circus tent,” ( χ 2 (1) = 11.53, p = .001)'). S13-06 excerpts E1-E10 present, incl. 'Thus, cuts in and of themselves were not associated with increases in segmentation' and 'action discontinuities dominate event segmentation'. arXiv PDF: 'The definitive Version of Record was published in ACM Transactions on Graphics, https://doi.org/10.1145/3072959.3073668'; 'ACM Trans.
