Corrected 2026-10-24 - see C3-B1054-01; the original statements below are kept for history and are superseded where the correction says so. At FFmpeg commit 9047fa1b, ffprobe stream output uses the keys color_range (unknown/tv/pc), color_space (e.g. bt709, gbr, unknown), color_transfer and color_primaries, and prints unknown when unspecified; a real user paste confirms these keys. MediaInfoLib (commit 153ad67a) lists colour_range, colour_primaries, transfer_characteristics, matrix_coefficients and colour_description_present, with _Source and _Original variants. Nothing was run; the checklist below is derived from these sources.

Curator correction 2026-10-24 (discovery audit record C3-B1054-01, curator-reviewed C3R-0688; excerpts re-located by independent curator GET 2026-10-24): Correction. Record C3-B232-G71-05 says that ffprobe stream output "prints unknown when unspecified" and its checklist says "unknown stays unknown", with no output-format condition. At the pinned FFmpeg commit 9047fa1b these four fields are printed through print_str_opt (optional fields). In the default value of -show_optional_fields (auto) the optional fields are printed only by writers that support them: the default writer carries the support flag, but tf_json.c and tf_xml.c do not, and the ffprobe documentation says JSON and XML omit fields with invalid or non-applicable values. So at that commit, in auto mode, the default, flat, ini, compact and csv writers print the key with the value "unknown", while the json and xml writers omit the key; -show_optional_fields always makes json and xml print "unknown", and never omits it everywhere. Read from code, not run; the experiment that would confirm it is ffprobe -show_entries stream=color_range,color_space,color_transfer,color_primaries on an untagged video with -of default, -of json, and -of json -show_optional_fields always. The statement was accurate for the default text format (the 2024 user paste was in that style) but omitted this condition when written on 2026-10-22; the condition existed in the code at the pinned commit. Nothing was run; this reading is from source code and documentation. Checklist consequence: when parsing JSON or XML, treat a missing key as unspecified. Curator qualifications: ffprobe keys color_range, color_space, color_transfer, color_primaries print unknown when unset; MediaInfo uses different key names. Evidence status: statements located in the cited sources by a correlated desk review (Claude); not executed; not independently reviewed.
